What’s in a name? This question must be circulating in the brains of the Slightly Mad Studios development team ad nauseam. The answer is quite a lot, as it transpires. you can use kart, vintage racer, street, modern racer, and even rallycross cars on various tracks. project cars 2 offers a variety of racing. Project CARS 3 was released at the end of August 2020 to cries of foul play and much derision. ignore project cars 3, you'll waste your money if you buy that disappointment. #Project cars 2 vs 3 full#Īn unedifying situation for a franchise that was once so full of promise. to redeem the Project CARS 2 product key or the Project CARS 3 activation code. Now, I should state that my own opinion of the game isn’t favourable. Buy Project CARS games for a good price or expand their content with DLC. Project CARS 3 was not part of the announcement and will remain available to purchase. Players who own either title will still be able to play the full game with all of its features, including multiplayer. The visuals were more 2010 than 2020, AI opponents inert and career progression that lacked engagement were amongst the afflictions. The original Project CARS will be removed on October 3, while Project CARS 2 will be removed a bit earlier on September 21. Not completely without merit, the core gameplay could be fun with a controller, drifting around corners with abandon. You also didn’t need to win races to progress, per se, but rather complete race objectives such as overtaking several cars or slipstreaming for a certain time period. In-race, you could earn bonus XP for sliding or earning ‘perfect corners’. It’s easy to pick up and play and the racing here is robust enough for some casual thrills and spills, but ultimately it cribs from so many other racing games that racing gamers probably already own that it’s simply inessential. This all reminded me of Driveclub’s unique twist on the accessible-racer genre.īut then, the objectives in that game were at least achievable, whereas some are simply daft in Project Cars 3. Impossible to recommend to fans of Project CARS 2, Project CARS 3 is a total 180 for the series. Plus, Driveclub looked incredible, and its cornering had a feeling of solidarity. Especially if you have tuned a vehicle, PCARS 3 can bounce around like a game of Buckaroo. Putting all these issues aside, though, the biggest beef with the game online seems to be that it’s not like Project CARS 2. People used it to race online in competitive clubs, don VR headsets and turn steering wheel peripherals. I’m okay with a new game by Slightly Mad using its MADNESS ENGINE to focus on controller gameplay. Trying to compete with the likes of Need for Speed, Burnout and DIRT 5 is a great idea. The team did that previously with the underrated Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends. However, if you’re going to do that, don’t call it a numbered title which the game-buying public would rightly assume directly follows on from the previous release. Really then, I think the main reason why Project CARS 3 is relatively unloved was failing to meet expectations set by the game‘s name. Those with sim-rigs were disappointed as the game isn’t suited to those setups at all. Worse, it annoyed those who backed the Project CARS project for over six years. Many road cars can be upgraded to its racing counterpart as wellĪlso you can tune cars pretty much if desired.īut overall the racing is fun as hell and challenging on higher levels. The handling is one thing, but a direct sequel not having tyre wear or pitstops? Come on now, this should have been a spin-off.īelow are some names which I think would have diverted some of the heat:Ī name sets out the stall for a game. AMS2 do cars great to right and ok, also Reiza is still tweaking the cars and physics. PC2 do some 30 cars right, some 30 cars ok and some 40 cars wrong, still SMS dropped the ball not tweaking the cars, also most track layouts are not laserscanned. It has full adjustable and live lighting and weather that can be set to change during races can do Laps up to 99 and has a lot of fun cars to drive that can be upgraded with parts and has customized liveries (fairly limited) but comes with quote a few liveries already to feel fresh and unique when on track. In PC2 it's so much easier to drive, and the cars don't spin around nearly as much as in AM2. Money is hard to come by and you get no free cars have to race to earn to buy and the career feels a bit of a chore at first but you also earn credits in solo custom races and you can set up some races pretty early on the earn a good amount of cash to get better cars. PC3 still has SM driving model mostly intact from 1&2 but the console controls are now phenomenal and allow for pushing limits, feeling the limits but rarely ever frustrated by those limits as you can still recover Felt like pure trash driving model and graphics were rough
